Movement Control: Moving the mental maps

The brain's maps of the outside world must be shifted when the point of view changes. Recent experiments on cortical neurons imply that this is done by modulating a distributed population code for position.

Moving Targets: Geographically Routed Human Movement Networks

We introduce a new communication paradigm, Human-to-human Mobile Ad hoc Networking (HuManet), that exploits smartphone capabilities and human behavior to create decentralized networks for smartphoneto-smartphone message delivery. HuManets support stealth command-and-control messaging for mobile BotNets, covert channels in the presence of an observer who monitors all cellular communication, and ...

Transient and steady-state response properties of movement detectors.

The transient and steady-state responses of movement detectors are studied at various pattern contrasts (i) by intracellularly recording from an identified movement-sensitive interneuron in the fly's brain and (ii) by comparing these results with computer simulations of an array of movement detectors of the correlation type. At the onset of stimulus motion, the membrane potential oscillates wit...

Directional Movement and Horizontal Edge Detectors in the Pigeon Retina.

There are ganglion cells in the pigeon retina that respond selectively, some to any edge moving in a particcular direction only, others to any vertically moving horizontal edge. This selective response to a specific stimulus arises from the selective sensitivity of each neuron to a particular spatiotemporal configuration in its afferent influences, and is independent of specific pathways.
